August & Katie

For most of their lives, August and Katie have lived no more than just a few blocks away from each other, probably closer than anyone who doesn’t like each other would prefer. As kids in Aurora, Colorado, they saw each other as  "those" neighbors—close enough to share awkward sidewalk encounters but far enough to pretend they didn’t see each other. In elementary school, they downright detested one another, but thanks to their mothers, Catherine and Susan, who believed in the buddy system, they were forced to walk to school together. For safety, of course. Nothing says "safe" like kids barely tolerating each other's existence.

Fast-forward to their teenage years, when they graduated from hating each other to skillfully ignoring each other. They were orbiting the same friend groups and after-school activities, kind of like two planets in the same solar system: nearby, but with zero intention of colliding.

Then came 2018, the year of messy breakups, ugly cries, and one too many tubs of ice cream. In the midst of heartbreak, August and Katie found themselves offering each other tissues (and unsolicited breakup advice), which quickly turned into late-night laughter, accidental bonding, and a whole lot of “Why didn’t we hang out sooner?” moments. Somewhere between sharing bad breakup playlists and overanalyzing texts from their exes, they realized they actually liked each other. Like, like liked.

They started dating in December 2018, moved in together in January 2020 (a brave decision right before a year of mandatory togetherness), and became legal domestic partners in 2022 - couldn't afford a wedding but wanted to make sure they were allowed in the ICU for one another if something bad happened. 2025 was a big year for the couple; they adopted a dog! And also bought their first home! Finally, they're ready to embark on the ultimate adventure: marriage.

Katie and August couldn’t be more excited to spend the rest of their lives together, officially stuck with each other in the most delightful way possible.
